LOST

  • Feb. 9th, 2010 at 11:04 PM

So what did everyone think of LOST? Were we happy? Spoilers ahead.

My friend and I along with a couple others are now thinking it has to be a parallel world. Are we going to see stuff that happened on the Island, happen in the alternate universe? Take for example, Ethan tonight. Why was he there?

If we are doing a parallel, I hope Boone can survive the alternate universe. :)

I thought things were going to be different in the alternate universe, so Kate technically shouldn't be innocent, I think. I have to remember the earlier seasons, lol.

Infection for Sayid and he's claimed? What the heck? Is this part of the evilness of the island? And now Claire is bad? Oh and how did the new guy (my mind is blank on his name) know that Claire was Jack's brother?

Sawyer and Kate? Don't want to see it. I liked him with Juliet. She should stay with Jack.

Sun and Jin??? I want them back together darn it!

I know there is other stuff to talk about but I keep getting interrupted as I write the blog so my thoughts aren't focused.

Thoughts anyone?

A Rush of Wings

  • Feb. 8th, 2010 at 11:10 PM

I've started Adrian Phoenix's The Maker's Song this weekend and finished the first one tonight. So far there are three books.

The first one is A Rush of Wings. We have FBI Special Agent Heather Wallace who is from Seattle but finds herself in New Orleans haunting down a serial killer. The murder investigation leads her to Club Hell where she meets musician Dante. Dante pretty much right off the bat says he's a vampire. Heather wants to know more about this mystery man even though she gets information on his juvenile record but wait; there isn't a social security, etc. In order to help Dante she needs to find out information but as she gets to know Dante and others, danger comes. She just might have to save herself instead of Dante.

I love how we have the fallen in this one. The fallen is Lucien who is a friend to Dante who wants to protect him. I have to admit, at first I wasn't sure I was going to like Lucien but that changed as I got further in the book. I kept waiting for him to cause issues between Heather and Dante. On a side note, I bought a couple books about the fallen. I can't wait to check those out.

Besides Heather and Dante, I like Von. I heard I haven't seen the last of him, so can't wait.

What I liked about Heather was the fact she didn't always need Dante to be there for her to protect her. There might be a time or two but most of the time she was a strong woman. I kind of wished we had more information on her past so hopefully one of the next books will talk about that.

Dante, what is there to say about him? I loved him. Not as much as Bones of course. Still love my Bones, but Dante the way she described him. Wow.

The next two books
In The Blood
Beneath the Skin

*There is a fourth one coming out, but no word yet on the release date. I'm sure I'll be reading it. It's going to be called Etched in Bone.

**Hopefully you'll be seeing First Drop of Crimson on here soon. It all depends on the weather tomorrow. Is anyone else sick of snow? I know I live in Ohio and apparently Cleveland (WOO! I think) was listed number one for the worst winter weather but come on! Where is spring?

Some Girls Bite

  • Feb. 7th, 2010 at 10:50 PM

Finished Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill and I loved this one. If there is one plus side about not having a job right now, it's I was able to finish the book in two days. Technically I finished it Friday and I'm usually pretty good about getting the blog posts up right away but yeah, I'll admit I was lazy. :)

The setting for this book is in Chicago, which I loved. Love the city. We meet Merit the main character who is your typical graduate student except one thing. She is turned into a vampire and her life changes from there. She is no longer a student and has to get use to this new change in her life.

She is changed by Ethan Sullivan who is the master of the house, Cadogan. He wants to possess her but our Merit pretty much says, "oh hell no." Maybe not in those exact words, but you get the idea. At the same time though, could she have feelings for Ethan?

The plot for this one is the murdering of women and Merit was supposed to be one of them but Ethan had changed her just in time. Can they figure out who is doing this? Ha, like I'm going to tell you.

I have to admit I liked Morgan a little bit. Although I'm thinking I should be going for Ethan. I'm hoping I'll be decided by the end of the second book. Morgan is another vampire in Merit's life. Unfortunately for her though he lives in the Navarre House. With him, part of me trusts him and the other half doesn't.

Up next in the series, Friday Night Bites which is out now and the third one, Twice Bitten comes out in July.

Hope everyone enjoys it :).

*Up next is either Adrian Phoenix's A Rush of Wings or Jeaniene's Frost First Drop of Crimson. If all goes well, I will have A Rush of Wings done tomorrow so I can start First Drop of Crimson as soon as I get it on Tuesday.

Bad to the Bone

  • Feb. 4th, 2010 at 5:17 PM

I loved Bad to the Bone by Jeri Smith-Ready. This one was hard to put down. It's the second in the series for WVMP Radio. If you haven't read Wicked Game, go out and get it. You'll love it.

Just like the first book, the main character is Ciara Griffin and her man or should say, vampire, is Shane McAllister. They both work at WVMP radio where all the DJs are vampires who are stuck in the time they were turned. I'm sure you remember my post on Wicked Game. If not, click here. http://robsad79.blogspot.com/2010/01/wicked-game.html

On Halloween, a religious group steals the airwaves for the radio station. Throughout the book they try to figure who and why these people are doing this. Of course there is trouble along the way but what better way to protect Ciara than her dog, Dexter. She meets Dexter when she and a couple others check out a large white cross that has a translator. Dexter isn't your typical dog. He's a vampire dog. When I first read the part where we are introduced to him I'm thinking, "How can she live with a vampire dog?" I won't tell you how of course. Also don't worry, besides Dexter, Shane will be there for her.

Also Ciara and Shane take a big step. The two move in together and Ciara has to get use to Shane, the vampire.

I still love how he is stuck in the 90s. What can I say? A lot of 90s music made me who I am today. I spent my teenager years during that decade. I can still see my friends and me sitting in a room listening to Nirvana or Green Day. Speaking of the music, I liked the playlist at the beginning of the book and I'm going to have to put some of those songs on my ipod.

I can't wait until August when the third book comes out, although Amazon says July. This one is called, Bring on the Night. In the meantime I'm definitely going to get her first young adult book, Shade which comes out in May.

The Memory of Water

  • Feb. 1st, 2010 at 1:39 AM

So I finally finished Karen White's The Memory of Water. I was starting to wonder if I ever was going to. I started that book and another,  and  picked up another book. This one got pushed aside. It's not a bad book at all. I liked it. It made me want to call my sisters up and say, "I love you."

Also just to warn you. If you are one of those people like me who gets emotional over the littlest thing, be ready to get a little teary eyed.

This one deals with two sisters who are reunited after ten years. It takes an accident for the ex-husband of one of the sisters to get the other sister back home. Back to a place she wants to forget. The sisters are Marnie and Diana Maitland. The ex-husband is Quinn who feels attracted to Marnie from the beginning. We also meet Gil, Quinn and Diana's son, who stopped talking after the accident. Which is one of the reasons Quinn wants Marnie to come home, to help cure Gil. Can she cure Gil though if she can't cure herself?

Some people reading this might be able to relate with a couple issues in the book but I think anyone would enjoy reading this one.

Also loved how we got everyone's point of view in first person. You would see Diana's thoughts than Gil.

This one was my first book by Karen White. Can't wait to read more.

The Iron King

  • Jan. 31st, 2010 at 2:01 AM

I just finished The Iron King by Julie Kagawa. This one reminded me of a fairy tale or fantasy story that I read as a kid.    Not one in particular but just one you would read.

Imagine being a girl who is about to turn 16. You have one thing on your mind, boys and the thought of being able to  drive soon. Unfortunately it doesn't go that way. You find out things that would make you think you are losing your mind. Faeries, those have to be fake right? Well Meghan Chase is about to find out the truth about faeries and her connection with them.

She discovers her four year brother has been kidnapped by the faeries and goes to rescue him. Along the way she meets all types of creatures which is where I thought, the old fairy tales you hear as a kid. I actually liked that. I've always been a sucker for fairy tales and fantasy stories.

I also loved how Kagawa put Puck, Oberon, and Titania in the story. Of course I won't tell you how. You'll just have to read it. For those unsure of the three characters, they go back and I mean way back. Think mythology or to make it easier, A Midsummer's Night Dream which is one of my favorite's from Shakespeare which is probably one reason I liked this book.

Definitely go out and get this one. You'll find it in your young adult section.

Up next: Karen White's The Memory of Water.

Wicked Enchantment

  • Jan. 26th, 2010 at 8:39 PM

Just finished Wicked Enchantment by Anya Bast and loved it. It was a nice break from my vampires. It's a paranormal romance and I definitely recommend it. You have the heroine, Aislinn and the hero, Gabriel.

Gabriel who is half incubus comes over to the Seelie court from the Unseelie court. Aislinn who is part of the fae is assigned to guide Gabriel through the Rose tower where Seelie resides. She tells herself she won't let his sexy charm get to her. As she gets to know Gabriel she also gets to know more about herself, the good and the bad.

Of course not everything can go right. The two will be dealing with friends, enemies, and even family. The two will also be dealing with each other. Gabriel might not be all he seems and Aislinn might just have to find out the hard way.

In this one you have fae, incubus, goblins, sluagh, and there is the mention of humans.

For those who don't like too much sex, the sex scenes are very graphic.

This is the first book in her new series, A Dark Magick. The second one is Cruel Enchantment and will be out in September. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Criminal Minds Dream

  • Jan. 26th, 2010 at 10:51 AM

think I watch too many crime shows lately. In my dream last night I was at a friend's party. Everyone was having a good time. That is until one of my friend's was killed. Instead of the cops coming, for some reason it was Reid and Garcia from Criminal Minds. Not sure why it was Garcia since she does all the IT stuff. Would have loved to seen Morgan. Anyways. They were asking questions left and right. Apparently there was a serial killer on the loose that was connected to my friends and I. They believed it was one of us. They were close to finding out who it was when the phone rung bringing me out of my dream. Don't you hate when that happens?

It was just weird. I haven't even watched Criminal Minds in a week or so.

Emma

  • Jan. 25th, 2010 at 12:11 AM

So tonight was Masterpiece Classic's Emma. If you couldn't tell by my tweets on twitter and facebook. Sorry friends for all those comments. :)

I have to say that I actually liked this version. I'm sure there will be some people who disagree but I loved the casting. Sorry Jeremy Northam but loved Jonny Lee Miller as Knightley. The role suited him nicely. I still see him as Edmund though. Can I see him as two leading men? Put him with Emma, he's great as Knightley. Put him with Fanny and he's great as Edmund.

Jonny as Knightley

Jonny as Edmund

Back to the movie. Lost myself there. Michael Gambon as Mr. Woodhouse was so perfect. Took me a couple minutes at the beginning because I saw Dumbledore but once the movie went on, he was so perfect. I have to say the best one yet.

Mr. Elton another previous Edmund from the latest Mansfield Park did a good job. He was a little creepy though I have to admit.

My only two complaints about this version is Miss Taylor aka Mrs. Weston looked to be the same age as Emma. It made it hard to believe she was Emma's governess. Also Jane Fairfax. She seemed to be a little rude to her Aunt Bates. It didn't suit the character at all. From I remember Jane was always a sweetheart to her Aunt.

I'm looking forward to watching the next part which airs next week. Can't wait!

Starting tomorrow the 25th, you can catch Emma online.

Job yes or no?

  • Jan. 5th, 2010 at 1:48 AM

So I'm wondering how much longer I have at my seasonal job. I'm actually a bit confused because I thought I would be done by now but they are saying it could be the end of January. Don't get me wrong. A job is a good thing to have but I would like to know how much longer I have there. Once I know that information I can search for something else. A full-time job would be a dream come true but until I get that I have to look for something part-time that also won't damage my unemployment. Meaning I can't make more than what unemployment gives me. I'm hoping even if I don't have my dream job a store would want me full-time which I know of course is wishful thinking right now. I guess I will have to keep working on my novel and short stories.

It's also weird because I work four days this week. I was getting use to working two or three. Naturally each day I'm only working three hours each except Friday we're open an hour later so I'll be doing four. What kind of sucks though for next week I'm only getting ten hours. Before when I worked two days I had somehow received more hours.

I do like my co-workers and will miss them. I'll definitely come bug them to see how they are doing.

Most of my friends tell me to apply to a bookstore but we know that would be crazy. My paycheck would disappear.

Just gotta have faith I'll find something soon. I do have to admit I like being able to stay up late knowing I can sleep in. I'm more of a night person.

I guess I should hit the bed though. My throat is starting to get sore which means a cold is coming so I guess the more rest I get the better.

Snow Day

  • Jan. 4th, 2010 at 1:03 PM

You know I remember a time when you would turn on the morning news and you would wait for that school closing and once you saw it you would go back to bed. Once you were back up, you and a bunch of other kids in the neighborhood would play outside until your parents told you it was time to come in or until you were just too tired to be outside anymore.

I went to get the newspaper and mail and saw no kids outside today. I know times have changed but right now the neighborhood looks like a ghost town. We use to play tag, see who had the better snowman, and there was the classic snowball fight. We didn't dream of coming in until we were ready.

So did today's kids disappear? Are they inside playing video games or on their computers? I doubt it but maybe the kids in my neighborhood went to the hill at Mentor Beach Park and are sledding. That was another thing we use to do if we could get one of our parents to drive us.

For those who have kids. What is it that makes them stay inside or is it just my neighborhood that kids are unsocial?

Snow

  • Dec. 28th, 2009 at 2:12 AM

I'm sitting at my desk looking out the window and not loving what I see. I know I've lived in Northeast Ohio now for over twenty years and should be use to it but I am definitely not a snow person. Sure give me snow for Christmas but now that Christmas is over, can I have my green grass? Although what's a New Years Day morning without digging out your car after a night of partys.

I do have to admit one thing though. I do like seeing the deer in the snow. Just saw three in the front yard. With the street completely covered in snow it looks like a winter wonderland. That's the only reason I pretty much like snow. Except for maybe when I was in grade school and we had snow days.

I do miss the days when you would get up in the morning and see a lot of snow and you would run to the TV to see if your school was listed. If it wasn't closed you would curse all the other schools that got a snow day.

You know what would be even greater? If work had snow days. Wouldn't you just love a call from your boss telling you not to come in? The closest I've ever gotten was in March last year when we had that huge snowstorm when the whole city pretty much closed down. I somehow made it to work. Actually my dad had to drive me. My little car would never have made it. Naturally a lot of people called off so we were short. The day is halfway over and our supervisor tells us to go home. It would have been so much better if she just called me at home and said not to come in.

I guess I'll stop complaining about snow. I'm sure I'll get people saying. "You live in Ohio. What do you expect?" My response? "A girl can dream."

Dec. 24th, 2009

  • 10:30 AM

Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!!! Hope you get what you want from your list.

30

  • Dec. 18th, 2009 at 12:42 PM

Where did my twenties go? Just seems like yesterday I was in college finishing up my final exams and turning twenty. Ah, to be young again.

Unfortunately I'm not where I wanted to be when I turned 30. But I'm not going to get upset by it. I figure the things we want we can't always get. I also wasn't planning on being jobless and still living at home with my parents, haha.

Where do I see myself a year from now? Honestly not sure yet. Hopefully a little closer to getting my book published. Maybe a steady job. Time will tell.

Outlander

  • Nov. 1st, 2009 at 3:54 PM

So I finished Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and now I can't wait to read the next one. The only thing though is I'm one of those people who don't want to read a billion pages for one book so I'm thinking I'll start the second one soon and read it when I get a chance. If I'm hooked of course and I don't want to put it down; I will totally finish it.

Also like to note Outlander is a good travel book. I stuck it in my bag for the trip to Maine and it took me the whole trip to finish it.

The book centers around Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser. Think sci-fi with romance. There is probably more romance than sci-fi, but you have the time travel element which makes it sci-fi. Anyone who knows me knows I do love sci-fi so if you put that in a romance book, I'm so there.

Claire travels from the 1940s to the 1740s where she first encounters Jack Randall who was her husband's ancestor. Does that go well? You will just have to find out. A little bit later she meets Jamie. Claire is a nurse and is able to fix Jamie up who is injured. She goes along with Jamie and the gang back to their home. There are adventures along the way that are good and bad. Despite the man waiting for her in the 1940s, Claire slowly falls in love with Jamie. Does she risk it all and stay or does she go back to her time? Read it and find out. Even if you don't care for romance I say give this one a try. It's not your typical romance book.

The only thing that maybe confused me had to with the fact you time travel 200 years in the past. At least I believe that's what I read in the book. It was a long book so I might have forgotten what I read. What confused me, was one of the characters that we meet traveled back in time before Claire did. She gave word to Claire it was the 1960s. So correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't she go back to 1760s? I was thinking maybe she came to Scotland in the 1560s but it hit me she would be really old by 1740. Did I miss something

Twenties Girl

  • Oct. 6th, 2009 at 10:16 PM

So I finally finished Twenties Girl. This one took me forever. It wasn't bad, but I just couldn't get into it. Which was a disappointment. I love Sophie Kinsella but this one wasn't my favorite. There were parts were you do laugh but I wasn't falling in love with the main character.

The main character Lara Lington has a big issue and it's her great aunt Sadie. It's her great aunt who passed away at the age of 105 appearing to her as a ghost at the age of twenty-three. Sadie gets Lara to help find a necklace that is very important to her. Of course there is drama along the way. Also along the way she meets Ed, an American. Do the two hit it off? You know I can't tell you that.

What I did like was that Sadie got Lara into twenties clothing, make-up, and all. That brought the Kinsella I love reading.

I still think you should check this one out. It might not be the Shopaholic series or Can You Keep a Secret. But definitely read it and let me know what you think. I think this is one of those books that some will love and some will not love but like. You won't hate it that's for sure.

Trying out Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It might be awhile on that one.
